Mom Dashes 900 Miles to Deliver Forgotten GameBoy

Devoted mother Carol Dukes traveled 900 miles (1,450 km) so her son, the apple of her eye, could play with his GameBoy on a school trip.
I hope the little brat appreciates it.

I think I'm about to be laid off. My boss told me this morning that he's going away for 2 to 3 weeks, and there's no work for me during that time. Then, when he gets back, "maybe" there will be stuff for me to do. I should be happy. 3 weeks of doing nothing! Not even school! I've been dreaming of this for years.

I should be happy, but I'm not. I'm kind of sad, actually. I still haven't found a full time job yet. I've lost count of how many jobs I applied for, and I've had no interviews so far. I don't know why I'm in such a hurry. I know I'm just gonna be miserable when I do get a job, cause work sucks. I'm living with my parents again, so no rent or utility bills to pay, and I have some money in the bank from my part time jobs so I don't have any financial worries for the time being. I should just relax and be happy.

News, Nostradamus Knock Out Sex In Cybersearches

Osama bin Laden has displaced Pamela Anderson in cyberspace and people looking for information about the American flag outnumbered those curious about Britney Spears.
You know it's a serious event when sex has dropped down to 17th place.

Oh man, the new Lamborghini Murcielago looks so nice. Although it looks really similar to the Diablo, it's not as radical a change as from the Countach to the Diablo. Sadly, the closest I'll ever get to a Murcielago is when it's on a poster hanging on my wall.

The Digital Bits has a big section on the Star Wars: Episode 1 DVD, including a review of the massive 2-disc set, screenshots of the menu screens, and a transcript of a Q&A session at Skywalker Ranch. The sad news is the episode 4-6 DVDs won't be released until after the episode 3 DVD.

Hackers took it upon themselves to attack Taliban-related websites. The Taliban has websites? Do they even have the infrastructure for internet access in Afghanistan?

Engineers Tackle Havoc Beneath Trade Center. Interesting article about problems that might arise when the rubble in the basement is dug out.

Silicon Film suspended operations today. Their product, the EFS-1 Electronic Film System, would've allowed a regular film SLR camera to take digital photos.

A rather unsettling thought: Hijacking Clues May Be Red Herrings

The terrorists who attacked the World Trade Center and Pentagon Sept. 11 practiced near-perfect operational planning, coordination and execution before their mission but left behind obvious evidence leading to other operatives who may have supported the hijackings. This begs the question of whether these evidence trails were intentionally left in order to distract U.S. law enforcement from other terrorists.

Here's a good article about the structural design of the World Trade Center towers and why they collapsed. It has commentary by several engineers, as well as one of the original architects of the WTC.

I'm back home in Pasadena now. I went to San Francisco with my parents on Thursday and we came back today. It was kind of a spur-of-the-moment trip actually, as we were supposed to go to Niagara Falls and then Toronto, but I don't think anyone wants to fly right now. Anyway, SF was fun. Everybody in the city was carrying on like normal, almost as if nothing had happened on Tuesday. Well, when we were in Sausalito there was a moment when a plane or a helicopter noisily flew by overhead and everybody worriedly looked up. I guess we should try to get back to our normal, daily lives, but it's hard to forget last Tuesday's events.
