How Film Is Transferred to Video is a useful article for explaining to people why they should watch widescreen instead of pan and scan.

Well, classes are over for this quarter, and that means it's finals time. Both my finals are on Monday, so don't expect many posts until Monday around 6:00 pm.

Electronics Boutique recently launched EB1, which allows you to download full games and play them for 72 hours for $4.99. Only 7 games are available right now, but a few are pretty good. This probably isn't so useful for those of you with 56k modems though. By the time you finish downloading the game your 72 hours will be over.

Job rejection letters by Jack Handey. My personal favorite is this one:

Dear Sir:

We are writing to find out what kind of carpeting and curtains you want in your new office. . . . Wait, we made a mistake. You're the wrong person. Oh, well, we're going to go ahead and send this letter to you anyway.

Sincerely,

Personnel Department

An unauthorized edited version of Star Wars Episode I is circulating around. It cuts 20 minutes from the original, including the majority of Jar Jar's scenes and Anakin's kid dialogue(the parts where he says "Yay!" and "Oops!"). I'm interested in seeing a copy, just to see if it's better than the original.

I'm so happy today. The presentation my group had to give in one of my classes went pretty smoothly. I was worried about it cause the guy who was presenting was kind of flaky and unreliable. And he hadn't done anything all quarter, so we made him do the presentation, kind of like a second chance.

I didn't know The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe was about Christianity. Now I have to read it again to see all the references I missed when I first read it in elementary school.

Only in corporate America do they reward incompetence: PG&E wants OK to double top executives' pay Court asked to approve $17 million in bonuses. Pacific Gas and Electric wants to pay $17.5 million to the management team that led the company into bankruptcy.

Good news: Office XP Already Cracked. Yes, even with all the product activation and subscription shit, Office was still cracked. I hope the irony's not lost on Microsoft.

I saw A Perfect Circle perform when they opened for NIN last year. At the time, I didn't think too much of their music. But then I read all these good reviews about them, and people were saying good things, so maybe I was wrong. I promised myself I'd give them another listen. Well, I downloaded a few songs last night, and I still don't hear anything special about their music. Maybe it needs to be louder.

The new Godzilla SUV looks so cool I might even get one.

Lineage is an online RPG that's very popular in Korea. I think they take it a little too seriously. One guy, whose character was killed in the game, beat up the guy who killed him in real life. And real-life gangsters are guarding people in the game for money. 2 million people out of the country's population of 46 million have active accounts. Strange that I've never heard of it here in the States.

Damn, I just found out I have 2 finals on Monday next week. For the longest time I thought they were Monday and Wednesday. On the other hand, I'm done with finals by Monday. I can relax the rest of the week and start packing up my stuff. I can't believe how much stuff I've collected over the last year.

Design Paul Champagne makes DVD boxset cases for sets of movies, such as the Evil Dead series, Criterion's John Woo movies, and Kevin Smith's Jersey trilogy. The cases are made of laser-engraved aluminum and look very damn cool.

Here's a great story about a teenager who attempted to build a nuclear reactor in his mom's gardening shed. He used household materials, aluminum foil, coffee filters, and duct tape. Scientists later surveyed the shed and detected radiation levels 1000 times higher than normal. Crazy. Hmmm...now I'm starting to worry cause UCI has a nuclear reactor on campus...
