Cevin Key will join the live lineup for the ohGr tour. ohGr is, well, Ogre's new band, and both Key and Ogre were 2/3 of the legendary Skinny Puppy. Tour dates haven't been announced yet, but you can be sure I'm gonna be there. Damn, this is such cool news. It might even make up for the Skinny Puppy show at the Doomsday festival last year, which I couldn't attend.

Man, I'm bored. Stupid Saturday nights. I need a girlfriend. I need someone to hang out with. I need a girl to watch movies with me on the couch. I need a girl to drive around aimlessly with me and listen to music. I need a girl to hang out with me in coffeeshops so we can look sophisticated together. I need a girl to go bowling with me and laugh at the funny bowling shoes. I need a girl to suggest things to do when we're bored on a Saturday night.

Atheists for Jesus. No, they're not a punk band, and yes, they're serious. And it's $30 to be a member.

The USB Pocket Hard Drive is a neat little portable hard drive that plugs into a USB port. It's small enough to carry in your pocket, and it doesn't need a power source. This is perfect for people who transfer lots of files between computers. Christ, $70 for the 16 mb version though.

So I'm staying at school for the weekend. Next week's so busy I can't afford to go home. Quiz and homework Monday, homework Tuesday, and midterm and homework Wednesday. Ugh. Not to mention that I started a new job and I don't want to be flaky and skip work.

My loser roommate just got back from wherever he goes Friday nights, probably getting stoned. He's probably gonna sleep till 4:00 in the afternoon, meaning I can't open the blinds or turn on my speakers all afternoon. Oh well.

DPReview has links to sample pictures taken by the new, 6 megapixel Nikon D1X. Most of the pictures are huge, about 2 mb each, but the quality is the best I've seen yet. I'm not an expert, but it seems like they're as good is, if not better than, regular 35 mm film.

Ocean's Eleven, the new remake of the old ratpack movie, is being shot in the parking lot across the street. My first thought upon hearing the news: "A movie? Here? In Irvine?" I guess the scene called for a nice looking parking lot.

Damnit, now I have to see the movie, even if it sucks, to see my school on the big screen. With my luck, the scene will probably get cut and I'll have to get the DVD to see the cut scenes.

The outside of my apartment building is being painted today, so the patio door and all the windows are covered in plastic. I think I'm either going to suffocate to death, or pass out from the paint fumes. So if I don't post anything in a long time, you'll know what happened.

We had a career fair on campus today. I know I mentioned in the last post that I got a new job, but it's part time only. I need a full time job after I graduate in September.

Anyway, the career fair really sucked. Almost none of the cool companies were hiring full time people. I guess they were just there for the hell of it, eh? Stupid economic recession. The company reps were pissing me off too. I'd ask them what positions they're hiring for, and they'd reply "If you go to our website you'll find a listing of jobs available." What the hell? Why even bother coming to campus if you're gonna be like that?

I got the job! I'm so happy. I'm actually excited about working there. I'm not sure what I can and what I can't say cause of the non-disclosure agreement, but they're doing networking related, uh, stuff. I'm actually interested in their product, unlike my previous job. They seem like really cool people. The CEO was down-to-earth and unpretentious. Well, I suppose he has to be cause it's a really small company and they'd never get things done otherwise. But still. I get my own office, too. A real office, not just a cubicle with high walls. And, best of all, they're not a heartless multinational corporation so I still have my punk rock credibility.

Sneaker Collectors Ride a Rising Tide

Tony Ling owns 350 pairs of sneakers, but only wears about five. The rest are wrapped in plastic, stored in their original boxes, and stacked inside his Lincoln Park home.

He peeks at them occasionally. But only for a few moments because he says the sunlight might fade them. He has been offered $800 for one pair but isn't tempted to sell.

I didn't know people collected sneakers too. I dunno, it seems kind of odd to me. You camp out all night and pay $250 for Air Jordan XIs. Wear the fucking things! But then again, who am I to say what's odd. I used to collect comic books and baseball cards.

Now I have to go to bed early cause I have to wake up for my 8:00 class tomorrow. It's not too bad though. Class ends at 9:30 and then I'm free until 5:00. I love having big blocks of uninterrupted free time.

Remember that job interview I mentioned 2 weeks ago? Good news, I was selected for the position pending approval by the CEO, who I'm meeting tomorrow. Ooh, impressive, right? Actually, meeting the CEO's not that big a deal, since it's only a 3 person company. Man, it'd be so money if they made me a vice president just for the hell of it.

Joey Ramone, 1951 - 2001 . He will be missed. The first time I heard the Ramones was in National Lampoon's Vacation, during a scene where Blitzkrieg Bop is playing. This was around 1989 or so, when I was 10. At the time, I didn't know who the song was by or even what it was called, but I knew I liked it. It was different from anything I've ever heard before. I didn't find out until much later that it was the Ramones. They introduced me to punk rock and the world beyond mainstream music. Rest in peace.

Oh man, I just woke up. What a waste, half the day's gone already. Ah well, I would've wasted it anyway. I'm about to go to KFC for lunch. I usually go to the one in Costa Mesa, but I think I'll go to the one on the PCH this time. There's never any cute girls eating at the Costa Mesa store.
