I highly recommend Memento. It's entertaining and unique and you won't be bored with it. It's about a guy whose wife was raped and murdered. During the attack he was hit on the head and now has short-term memory loss. So now he can't remember more than a few minutes ago, and he's trying to find the killer. And on top of that, the movie is told backwards (like that Seinfeld episode). It's kind of a complex story. Those of you who had trouble understanding Pulp Fiction and Go should probably skip it. Or watch it with a more intelligent friend who can explain it afterwards.

I'm about to go for dinner and then see Memento. I've heard lots of good stuff about the movie.

I was daydreaming in class when I realized that this is my last real quarter at UCI (I don't consider summer school an actual quarter). Just like that it's been 4 years. It makes me feel a little sad. No more trying to get add cards signed. No more buying books at the bookstore. No more complaining about the prices. No more hazing the freshmen. When it's time to register for classes in May, I won't be enrolling in anything. In fact, I won't even pick up a copy of the Schedule of Classes. I should enjoy this quarter while I can, or else next thing I know it'll be 9th week and I'll wonder what the hell I was doing.

Invisibles are screenshots from movies where the actors have been removed. I think I got fairly respectable scores, and some of my favorite movies are represented.

3D glasses look really stupid taken out of context.

Maybe I'm just easily amused, but VirtualStapler is surprisingly fun to play with.

I have a job interview tomorrow, I think. Some guy called and I couldn't understand a word he said. He had an Indian accent, and on top of that he sounded really, really bored and tired and didn't bother to pronounce the words clearly. I didn't even recognize the company name until I remembered I found it on Jobtrak. He gave me an address, but it's totally different from the one listed on Jobtrak. Well, we'll see what happens tomorrow. I hope the same guy doesn't interview me.

The Guide to Shooting Rubber Bands has everything you need to know about launching small pieces of rubber at people. It shows 6 techniques and also has a section about disarming other shooters.

Two Held for Selling Human Remains

"Two people have been arrested in the Moldovan capital of Chisinau on suspicion of selling human remains from a hospital as dog meat, officials said on Tuesday."
I've always wondered what happens to bodyparts left over from operations. Just imagine, deep within every hospital is a big dumpster filled with amputated limbs, cancers, tumors, appendixes, tonsils, everything surgeons cut out and remove. And then think about the janitor who has to handle all that stuff.

I put up a little gallery called Flour on the Stove in my photos section.

On the first day of class my space science professor said she's an atheist. I think I'm going to like this class.

3:28 PM |
Viva la resistance! Death to SUVs! An unknown group torched 30 Chevy Suburbans and Tahoes at a dealership in Oregon. I hearby declare open season on SUVs.

10:00 AM |
I went to my 8:00 AM space science class this morning. I haven't had an 8:00 class since freshman year, when I had writing. I overslept for every lecture and completely missed it one time. Luckily the space class is actually interesting, and the professor seems cool. Well, 10 more weeks of waking up at an ungodly hour.

Kids, don't make fun of islands in Thailand like I did in the previous post. I'm sure the Thai laugh at our city names too, such as Yeehaw Junction, FL and Krypton, KY.

And now it's time for Fun With Phonics!

Phuket Thai Food

Notice the Giant sticker on the traffic light?

Interesting piece about fake encores. I always wondered what the point of encores are. You know the band's obviously going to come back and play more songs. Why not relax and wait quietly?

You gotta love that Uday Hussein (Saddam's son) and his crazy April Fools jokes. Increasing food rations? Oh man, he slays me.

4:23 PM |
I managed to survive 5 hours of classes today. Barely. I haven't eaten anything all day, so the first thing I eat when I get back is candy. Mmmm-mmm. Well, it's close to dinner time, so I don't want to eat anything big that'll ruin my appetite. I'm turning into a cross between a 7-year-old and my parents.

Watch Christopher Walken kickin' it old school in Fatboy Slim's "Weapon of Choice" video. Who would've thought he could move like that?

12:44 AM |
Also at MOMA is Marcel DuChamp's Fountain. I first saw a picture of it in art class. I really like the idea of ready-made, "found art" and the fact that everyday objects can be considered art. I especially like Fountain, as it's just a urinal but it also has a minimal beauty to it. Anyway, there's a big difference between seeing a picture of an artwork in a textbook, and seeing the actual piece in person. It's much bigger than I thought it would be. And it really is just a urinal with "R. Mutt" written on the side.

Just an interesting observation: after driving 7 hours to San Francisco, driving 1 hour from home to UCI is nothing.

At MOMA we saw a good exhibition called 010101: Art in Technological Times. My favorite piece is by Rodney Graham, called Edge of a Wood. It starts out in a completely dark, quiet, calm room. Gradually you hear a helicopter approaching. Then suddenly a forest is illuminated by the helicopter's searchlight. The helicopter circles around a bit, the trees bending in the wind, and finally leaves, the room returning to calmness.

There are lots more cool pieces. If you're in the area, you should definitely check it out.

7:31 PM |
And now I'm back in Irvine. Tomorrow I have classes from 11:00 till 4:00 straight. What the hell was I thinking? I just know I'm gonna ditch most of them later in the quarter. Luckily that's only on Mondays.
