I'm about to head home for the weekend. Get some good food and pick up a paycheck and housing payments. I'm gonna try to study for astronomy too (the final's on Tuesday).

A group of anarchists in West Philadelphia tried to buy a house to turn into a community center, but they were outbid by an investor. They say it's caused by gentrification, but the residents of the area say the anarchists themselves, who are mostly white, are causing gentrification. The anarchists' plan, though, sounds really cool.

"This house would have been filled with tool-sharing programs and free stores, where you just drop off donations and pick up what you need. It would have had radical libraries and free computer access open to all with no library cards required. There would be a huge communal kitchen in which to cook free meals for the community every week. Darkrooms, carpentry spaces, silk screening, welding."

Well, we were bored again so me and Irving decided to just drive around. We drove down PCH to Laguna Beach. It's really dark on the PCH at night. There's only a few streetlights, so the only illumination was from the headlights of other cars. We looked to the left and the ocean was pitch black. The town itself was deserted, a big difference from the middle of the afternoon where the traffic is terrible. Then, heading back from Laguna Beach you go through a canyon on a narrow 2-lane road. There were no cars at all. It was really surreal, seeing nothing except the yellow center divider rushing out of the darkness. Anyway, I thought it was rather relaxing. Nice little way to loosen up before the crush of finals week.

I didn't go to my professor's house for dinner after all. There was supposed to be a car pool, but it never happened. I could've just driven there myself, but I'm almost positive everyone else would've ditched me and I'd be the only one there.

Remember that 7 line Perl script that could descramble DVDs? Here's a version in C that's even smaller. It's slightly more readable than the Perl one. It's also fast enough for realtime decoding.

The interview went ok, I think. I hope I get the job. They pay more than I get paid now, and they're located literally 2 minutes from here.

10:51 AM |
Ah, last day of classes. Next week is finals week, and after that I'm done for winter quarter. Later today I have a job interview at Canon, and tonight I'm going to my professor's house for dinner with my group from my project course. That's gonna be awkward.

Georgia Tech has a campus-wide wireless LAN. All you need is a wireless network card and you can access the internet anywhere. Very cool. I think we have wireless net access in a few buildings on campus. Of course, it's not much use to me cause I don't have a laptop yet, but still...

Man Shot Dead As Bulletproof Magic Fails

After smearing his body with a concoction of herbs every day for two weeks, Aberima volunteered to be shot to check if the spell had worked.

One of the others fetched a rifle and shot Aberima who died instantly from a single bullet.

Hey, don't laugh! That's mean.

Some really nice panoramic pictures of Tokyo. I've been trying to get back into photography lately. Last weekend I took my camera and drove aimlessly, taking pictures around Irvine. Of course, Irvine isn't anywhere near as interesting as Tokyo.

Some people just can't take a joke. Despair, the makers of demotivators, tried to trademark a sad face, : - ( as a joke. To their surprise, the request was actually granted. Then the nasty emails came in.

So you've moved into a new apartment and you want to decorate the place, preferably in a Santa Fe Southwestern decor with a touch of Satanism? How about some skulls? These guys sell mammal, bird, and reptile skulls. Yes, they even have human fetus skulls, a bargain at $450.

If selling skulls isn't macabre enough, they also do skull cleaning. Carrion beetles are used to clean all the meat off.

Ladies, having trouble keeping your man satisfied? Here are some slightly twisted tips, such as:

Plan ahead, even the night before, to have a delicious meal-- on time. This is a way of letting him know that you have been thinking about him, and are concerned about his needs. Most men are hungry when they come home and the prospects of a good meal are part of the warm welcome needed. Be sure to use arsenic or another heavy metal poison-- less mess to clean up and a single dose can easily be blamed on household contaminants with none of the ’premeditated’ headache of monthly doses.

So the final wasn't so bad. At least it's out of the way now, so I can study for my other 2 finals next week.

No updates lately, I'm busy studying for a final tomorrow.

People who loudly type really fast bug me.

9:40 PM |
I dunno why but I just can't keep my mind on studying tonight. It's like everytime I start reading my thoughts start wandering. And I have a final in 2 days! Not good at all. Luckily it's a somewhat easy class that I can bullshit through the final.

In fact, I haven't been able to pay attention in any of my classes this quarter. I think it's cause I haven't had a break in a long time. Cause usually I get summer off, right? I get a few months of relaxing, no school, no serious brain work. But last year I went to summer school, so it's like I've been going to classes and using my brain continuously since fall of 99. And it's building up, man. I'm about to go crazy.

6:37 PM |
My roommates abandoned the dart launcher idea and now they're playing with blow guns. They made a cone out of paper and stuck a nail in the tip. The blow gun is surprisingly powerful, they can stick the dart in the wall from across the room.

2:33 PM |
Yeah! Mr. T is back!

2:05 AM |
My roommates have a dartboard in their room. There are more holes in the wall around the board than in the board itself. Somehow they decided that just throwing the darts isn't good enough. So now they're hammering together a dart launcher. I just know someone's going to get hurt.

The 10 Most Boring Moments of High School. My favorite is #3: "Exactly 22 minutes into class. Looking at the clock and realizing you aren't even at the half-way point is nothing short of heartbreaking." And how did I go to classes from 8:00 till 3:00 everyday without going nuts? I can't even imagine it now.

Film Club is a parody of Fight Club, except it's about movies(duh). Instead of 2 guys fighting, they film each other with cameras. I was amazed at how thorough these guys were, as it matches the Fight Club trailer almost shot by shot.

Salon.com has a good article about Punk fashion and its staying power. It has not gone out of style since it started in the 70s.

5:14 PM |
The following post might be terribly boring to you, but I just need to vent. To graduate, I just need to take 2 classes during summer school, math and Spanish. And to finish my minor, I need to take 3 studio art classes. I can fit 2 art classes into my schedule just fine, but the 3rd art class conflicts with everything else. Fucking shit! Only 1 class away from a minor. Stupid School of the Arts, they're just as bad as ICS at scheduling classes. And I really don't want to hang around for Fall quarter just to finish a minor.

The BeeTTle is a body kit for the Beetle that makes it look like an Audi TT. I have to admit, it looks really good. The first time I saw the picture I thought it was a TT. Seems like a lot of work and money though, I'd rather put on a bumper sticker that says "How's my driving? Call 1-800-EAT-SHIT."

Well, tonight's SNL wasn't as funny as I thought it would be with Conan hosting and all. I guess he did the best he could with the material he had.
