Study Finds You Really Don't Make A Difference.

"When you tell your boss he is doing a good job, you know you are lying, but when your boss tells you the same thing, you actually believe it. That's priceless."
That's what I've been saying all along.

So it's the beginning of the long weekend and you're afraid you'll get bored after all the drinking and shopping (I know I will). If you need a project to do, build a router for $50. All you need is a cheap 486 (I'm sure everybody has those lying around), 2 network cards, and a few other parts. The cool thing is, I'm taking a computer networks class this quarter and I mostly understood what the writer was talking about. And in the project class for the series, we have to configure routers and switches and whatever.

Some guy in Lithuania built a theme park dedicated to Stalin. Visitors "wander among the towering Communist-era sculptures, under the gaze of mannequins manning machine guns in watchtowers, and eat at a café serving labor camp standards like gruel and fishhead soup." Coming soon: EuroStalinworld in France!

All the archives from the beginning of October till last week are working. I reformatted and cleaned them up, stripping out the SSI and stuff. For some reason the week of January 14th-20th is missing from my archive. I still have the file but it doesn't show up in Blogger. Oh well, I don't think anything important happened that week.

I'm still downloading the Skinny Puppy Worlock clip that I mentioned earlier. Man, it better be worth it.

I'm getting real sick of those Down to Earth commecials. I wish it would hurry up and bomb so they don't show them any more.

5:44 PM | !!
Here are some Real video clips of Skinny Puppy at the Doomsday show. As of right now they have 2 interviews with the band and Worlock. It's downloading really slow right now, so you might want to wait.

If you're looking for a good prank, look no further. Just print out a few of these and post them up at school or work.

Tee hee hee...

I got the third highest score on the midterm for one of my classes. I'm so proud of myself. To celebrate I'm going to skip class on Monday.

Stupid Valentine's Day. My professor's lecture slides had little hearts in the corner. Ugh.

More info about the Nikon D1X, the 5.3 megapixel followup to the flagship D1.

Damnit, I was listening to the now playing song and I was getting into the groove and suddenly my computer spontaneously rebooted itself. Totally ruined the moment.

Windows XP has a new security system that won't allow unauthenticated media files to be played. Apparently Windows adds noise to all media files, and only if the file passes the security check is the noised removed. You know someone's going to write a crack, but even still, that's just another reason to skip Windows XP.

More toy news: Figures from Seven Samurai and Reservoir Dogs. The Seven Samurai toys look just like the actors.

This is just cool: there's a new line of Spinal Tap toys. Nigel comes with an amp knob that goes to 11 and Derek comes with a foil wrapped zucchini.

McFarlane toys has some very impressive new figures for 2001, especially the Metal Gear Solid 2 and H.R. Giger figures. There's also more pics of the Clive Barker toys I mentioned last week.

Skip to the 4th paragraph in this article and you'll see this little gem: an announcement of the special edition DVD of Orgazmo! Woohoo! I've been waiting for this ever since I saw the movie. Orgazmo's probably the funniest stupid movie I've ever seen. It's so bad I can't help but like it.

And in more digital photography news, Canon has 3 new cameras, the S300, and PowerShot A10 and A20. The S300 is about the same as the S100, but with a 3x optical zoom. The A10 and A20 seem to be "affordable" cameras, at 1.3 and 2.1 megapixels, respectively. Also from Canon is a portable printer that connects directly to these new cameras and prints little credit card-sized pictures. I'm starting to wonder whether I should've waited a few months before I got my PowerShot S10...

Also at DPReview is Silicon Film's EFS-1, which turns a traditional 35 mm film camera into a digital camera. So if you've already spent a fortune on a SLR system, you won't have to spend another fortune on a digital system. The downside, though, is it only works with "select 35 mm SLR cameras."

DPReview, uh, hands-on previewed a new 6 megapixel digital camera from Pentax. It looks like a badass, all angles and curves. Mmmmm...6 megapixels.

Hopefully, if the Wheelman becomes popular it won't be as annoying as those Razor scooters. I don't know what kind of tricks you could do with it though, as it looks kinda heavy. And they're expensive too, $1200 US for the cheapest model. For that much money I'd be afraid to do any tricks that might fuck it up.
