I think I'm getting sick. I had a sore throat all day and now I have a slight headache. I even skipped work. Well, I skip work when I'm not sick too, but anyway. This sucks ass.

Possibly the coolest school-related news I've ever posted, for my project class my group will do a distributed network of Linux machines. This is similar to the Beowulf project at NASA. It's essentially a whole bunch of computers working together, and the workload is distributed among the computers, so you get a fast and cheap supercomputer. The problem is, we have absolutely no idea where to start. I know a little Linux, but I don't think any of the other members have experience with it. It'll still be a lot of fun though.

Chinese people are very superstitious, especially with regards to numbers. 8 is a really lucky number. Once I saw a Mercedes in Chinatown with a license plate "88668t8". That dude's hardcore. Anyway, cell phone numbers with lots of 8s and other lucky numbers sell for thousands of dollars in China. Personally, I'd kill to get a number that began with 666.

Last year I explored the steam tunnels under campus with some friends from the dorm. It was lots of fun, and I'd definitely go again if I could get enough people to come along. Salon wrote about infiltration, or going places you're not supposed to go. Some people actually go into abandoned lunatic asylums, which is a bit too much for me.

Companies Retooling for Ginger-based Economy
"I don't want to reveal too much, but let's just say we put the Gin in Ginger," boasted Scott McNealy, CEO of Sun Microsystems. McNealy later conceded he hasn't found out what Ginger is, exactly, but argued that like the Internet, "it isn't what you know, but whether or not people perceive that you know."

A minor in computer games and gaming was proposed here at UCI last year, but it was voted down. But the assistant professor who came up with the idea is going to submit it again this year. It sounds really interesting, as you need 10 courses for the minor, including programming, computer graphics, digital imaging, and animation. Too bad I'll be gone before the minor is approved.

Do you have some CDs that need cases? Do you also have sheets of paper lying around? Well, you're in luck: make an origami CD case.

I just got back from Irving's place. We made brownies and ate them with vanilla ice cream. And I just realized how utterly lame that is. If anybody asks, we were snorting coke off a hooker's chest.

Friday night I was up till 4:00 in the morning watching movies. We rented Titus and SLC Punk. Titus was ok, but I didn't like it that much. I loved SLC Punk, however. It was very funny, and totally had a punk, DIY feel to it. I want to start a punk band and get into fights with rednecks now.
Saturday morning I went home. Home was boring and cold. Although I went to the auto show in the afternoon. I'm not really into cars, but there were a few cool ones. I saw an odd sight while were looking for parking. We passed by a Jaguar convertible: the driver had dreadlocks, the dude in the passenger seat was wearing huge headphones, and sitting on top of the back seat were 2 gorgeous, model-type girls, smiling and doing...whatever models do. It doesn't sound all that weird, but trust me, they looked like they came out of an ad in a fashion magazine. I was like, Who the fuck are these guys?
